You might ask your potential boss what program he is using; my guess would be that it is MS Word, but you may have actually saved your resume in OpenOffice.org ODF instead of word. Resave the document, and this time: File|Save As Now, before you do anything else, ensure that the "Automatic file name extension" box is checked/filled.
