My friend wouldn't mind -- it's only one issue -- and if it helps fix these problems I'm all for doing it. I'm new to Oo, so how do I go about submitting a bug report, as you suggest?

I see exactly what you are talking about. I have two systems
side-by-side; on the left I put up the doc in Word97 and on the right I
put up the doc in OOo 2.4.0 (linux) and it's easy to spot the
differences. If (on OOo) I resize the frame font sizes to 10 they seem
to fit. And with some modifications to the hard tabs I can get it to
look pretty much the same as the Windows MS Word version. However, I do
notice that the AGaramond rendering on my linux is entirely incorrect,
that is a font issue with my linux system as AGaramond shows up properly
on my OOo Windows system.

I'm not sure it you friend would mind - you'll need his permission first
- but it might be worth filing a bug using that exact document, plus
PDF's of both the MS Word and the OOo so that the developers can review
and _possibly_ use for improving the 3.0 import filters. This is a
perfect example of an MS Doc with a "Text Box" converted into a Frame
that is not converting properly: no embeded graphics, simple text
w/bullets and a few tab stops.
