For the avoidance of doubt, this is not true: \n finds *explicit* line breaks (inserted with Shift+Enter) - but not the paragraph breaks that you need to find, of course.
I'll just continue pasting text into Word, and replacing ^p^p with ^p, to remove extra paragraph breaks.
That's quite unnecessary, since that particular trick is very easy. As has already been said by another contributor, you simply need to replace ^$ with nothing. Press Replace All, and all those empty paragraphs disappear. I use this all the time with material pasted in from elsewhere, e.g. web material.
