I recently bought OOo and am not a technical person. I am pretty pleased in general but since I installed OOo the format for, Hotmail, and Yahoo mail pages have opened in a format that looks like some underlying platform, which makes them virtually unreadable. I am also unable to open any pages for mapquest, or any web page providing directions. I suspect it is a java application. Can you help me please otherwise I am going to have to uninstall OOo?

You mention you “bought” OOo.

OpenOffice.org is a “free” product available primarily from http://www.openoffice.org/ . You can, of course, donate to the product. But if you believe you “bought” it, you may have been scammed by a unscrupulous dealer into buying something available for free.

(Note, selling OpenOffice.org is quite legal, and some decent people do sell it on CD at a reasonable price either with extra utilities or as is for those who have a slow internet connection and would rather have it on CD without the hassle of downloading it.)

Your problem is not a usual one with standard OpenOffice.org, which is probably why no-one has yet responded from this forum: they have never encountered it.

OpenOffice is normally very well behaved and has no connection with your mail client, unless you set one up, and then it only sends documents to your email client as attachments and has the client mail them.

I do suggest uninstalling OpenOffice.org to be sure of this and then trying to fix any problems you have with your email. Next try downloading OpenOffice.org free from http://www.openoffice.org/ and reinstalling it.
