Firstly, you haven't described the problem well enough to say what's
wrong - it is helpful if you say what you did, what you expected to
happen, and what actually did happen (with any error messages).

However, to get OOo up and running, first download it: go to the web
site
http://www.openoffice.org
and click on the "I want to download..." link, then on the green
"download now" button that opens up (assuming you want US english and
a windows installation) Ignore the 'please contribute' page that
appears (although you may wish to revisit this after trying the
product) - your browser should pop up its usual 'download' dialogue.
Save the installation kit in a known place on your hard drive. It'll
be called something like OOo_2.4.0_Win32Intel_install_wJRE_en-US.exe

When the download is complete, double-click on the file to install
the software - please read any instructions carefully and follow
them. (Mostly, you can accept any default answers. Be careful about
file associations for MS files if you already have MSOffice
installed)

When you run OOo for the first time, it will ask about registering
the installation - this is purely optional, feel free to say "never".

Oh, I believe some antivirus software can interfere with installation
- you may wish to disconnect from the internet and then disable this
before installing. Reenable before connecting back to the internet.

I hope the above helps.
