I hope you didn't get OpenOffice from somewhere that you have to pay to
download, as downloading is free from www.openoffice.org.
Assuming you're running Windows, you have to double click on the file
you downloaded, to start the installation process. That process will
take you through a series of panels. When that's done, there should be
an OpenOffice folder and icons in your Start menu. Are they there? You
can use the icons to start the various OpenOffice components.
