Thank you for the prompt reply. I did finally get the word processor to open and that is what I was trying to do. I could open the program but couldn't figure out which one opened the word processor. It's OK now. I am looking forward to using it as my old Microsoft WORD is the 2000 version and doesn't work very well anymore with my new VISTA program. This program is almost identical to it and I appreciate not having to pay a fortune to get a new one. I did download it but ordered the CD just in case. I always like to keep one on hand in case it crashes and I need to re-install it.
Thanks again,
Merry Widow

Would someone please tell me how to get this program to open. I want it to open when I click on the icon on my desk top. I can't figure out how to do this. There are so many things to click on and I am pretty computer literate but I can't get this to open. I want it to open to the word processor and don't know what to click on to get the word processor to open.
Thanks.

I hope you didn't get OpenOffice from somewhere that you have to pay to download, as downloading is free from www.openoffice.org.

Assuming you're running Windows, you have to double click on the file you downloaded, to start the installation process. That process will take you through a series of panels. When that's done, there should be an OpenOffice folder and icons in your Start menu. Are they there? You can use the icons to start the various OpenOffice components.
