Chickens and eggs. Until there's a good enough demand, makers won't
bother with linux support.
Yes, true. However, as support for Linux is more in the interests of the
Linux fraternity than it is in the interests of the gadget suppliers I think
it's incumbent on the Linux folk to get their act together ...
One way out seems to be an emulator. I'm trialling XP in VirtualBox
under ubuntu. But there are, inevitably perhaps, issues with obscure
things like Sony's sonicstage software that works almost-but-not-
quite perfectly.
There's a thing called WINE that seems to be able to run most Windows
applications under most Linux's. But it seems to me that the very idea that
such a thing is needed proves beyond reasonable doubt that Linux isn't ready
for the real world.
To ALL: I have found that there are, already, all the programs needed on
Linux for anybody's computing needs, except a viable voice dictation
program! Of course, gnucash could be more user friendly, at least equal
to Quicken, but they are working on that as I have noticed it gets
better with each update! As soon as there is a viable voice dictation
program available, I am out of here, but until then I will continue to
use XP, unless MSFT goes through with its plans. In which case, I will
be forced to disconnect my XP box from the Internet, and switch to using
my Linux for all Internet use! Weird world we live in isn't it!!! :-(
