Basically, it is safer to assume that in the native .docx format you can't. If I were you, I would open each of your documents in your trial copy of Word, _before_ it expires and resave as .doc files. (The older Word format.) You will then be able to open them in OpenOffice.org without any problems. Some flavours of OpenOffice.org can open .docx files. But the vanilla version can't yet. At the very least, I would check that your copy of OpenOffice.org can open .docx files while you could still do something about it. But safer by far to follow my advice above.
