Top posted rather than a new thread, and the original text pushed down
as simply history to keep it connected. This is essentially a re-start
of the thread:
OK, I had a second occurrence of Calc refusing to Save a file. The
first was with OOo 2.4, this time with 2.4.1 (XP Pro SP2).
It consists of a lot of pasted data from many sources, largely text,
including the 'net, and a lot of my own entries too.
ALL other applications continued to function properly but Calc would
not Save or Save As. I could copy, move, delete, to/from the Calc file,
to/from itself and to/from other applications (Excel, Word, Writer),
CTRL-x, c, v, and z all work. I could copy data to new sheets and
delete the old sheets, but none of that helped anything. Everything
literally seemed to work but Save or Save As.
Other apps or other Calc files would Save OK; there is apparently,
my guess, something "broken" in one of the three Calc sheets within this
file. I don't have a large number of Notes in it, but I do have a
couple that, though they are long, they don't approach the length
limitations.
The error message is simple, no number, it simply says Calc cannot
save the file. The "X" for it is in the upper left corner rather than
the upper right as expected, and goes away when you click OK.
There's nothing personal in the file at all if anyone would like to see
it, but after closing without saving and then reopening it, it again
saves OK, same as last time. I've been faithful about saving so no data
was lost either although it seems like the last entry should have been
missing; I don't -think- it is!
I plan to keep using Calc for the time being for this file's intended
purpose, so I should be able to get it to happen again and try some
other things I didn't think to try this time. Any suggestions, let me
know. I'm leaning toward the sheet somehow being corrupted right now.
Next time I plan to try deleting parts of it useing the rule of halves
to find where the corruption might be unless someone has abetter idea.
Like I said, it CAN be copied to another file for saving while it's in
the "won't save" mode.
Unfortunately though I have put all my other Calc files back into
Excel until this is worked out; not that many were converted yet; I make
transitions like this slowly.
Any tips or suggestions? Requests to see the file?
Twayne
