This is not supported by either the Shorter Oxford English Dictionary or Chambers Twentieth Century Dictionary. The former says that it means more than one, but is more usually used for more than 2 or 3, the latter that it means more than one, but is more usually used to mean more than 3. The former is how I have always used it.
