For the benefit of anyone else on this list who has felt embarrassed at asking any more questions on how to do something others seemed to find easy; in other words, for tjose (if any) who like me have utterly failed to get anywhere with scim: I found the following on the net yeasterday:
IMPORTANT: scim by default works only in an en_US.UTF-8 locale! Doh! Now, if I had been able to find any HOW-TOs on scim, I should no doubt have found out a long time ago that that was the problem. Or if I had had teh courage to ask again on this list... Any volunteers to write some scim documentation? Meanwhile I am a happy user of uim in my en_GB.UTF-8 locale.
