First, are you sure you downloaded the right version? There are different
versions for different Operating Systems (OS). Assuming you are running
Windows:
1. Download the Windows version of OpenOffice. The name of the file is
"OOo_2.4.1_Win32Intel_INstall_wJRE_en-US.exe". As you will see from its
name, that's a ***program*** (".exe").
2. Run the downloaded file; do this by double clicking on it. Do ***not***
do anything else with that file. Just run (execute) it. The message you are
getting is the typical symptom of what happens if you try to "unpack" the
downloaded file and try to run [the wrong] one of its components.
3. The rest should be completely automatic.

print them off so you can follow them as you proceed.
