We used it worldwide within the company for which I worked and I could send and receive (printed only) messages on a "portable" (20lbs, 9kg) device on my dining room table. It was the main method of comunication within the company. I could walk into any of my company's offices or any of my client's offices around the world and, using their equipment, send and receive e-mails including attachments. In about 1982 a company in Italy built a smaller version of that portable device into a Gucci leather briefcase; the company tried to sell this to companies employing upmarket travelling salespeople for taking orders and so on via a modified version of that same e-mail system. <snip> -- Harold Fuchs London, England Please reply *only* to [email protected]
