If you see a light gray frame, note first that this is just a guide to show you how the margins and the text area fit on the chosen paper size. In particular, this is not part of the final document and does not appear when you print it. You can confirm this quickly by going to File | Page Preview or by using the Page Preview button in the Standard toolbar. If you want to suppress it anyway, go to Tools | Options... | OpenOffice.org | Appearance | Custom colors, and remove the tick from "Text boundaries" under General.
If you are instead seeing a real border - one which shows up in Page Preview and also prints - then you must have created a template with such a border and set this as the default template. You can reset this to a template without a border in the same way that you changed it before, of course.
