OpenOffice.org does sometimes crash. Usually you can fix it by just starting it up again.
I doubt that you will get much more help here. Version 1.0.2 is a very, very old version. You can download the most recent version, that is 2.4.1, free from http://www.openoffice.org/ if your system can bear it. See http://www.openoffice.org/dev_docs/source/sys_reqs.html for system requirements for various versions of OpenOffice.org.
