Assuming you're running Windows, the way to install is:
1) Download the latest Windows version from www.openoffice.org
2) Double click on the downloaded file to start the installation process
3) When the installation process is complete, you should see an
OpenOffice folder and icons in your Start menu. You can use the icons
to start the various components.
If this is not what happened, please provide further details.
