While Harold provides some good information regarding md5sum's, I would
highly recommend that you use the md5sum to verify the integrity of your
download. The OOo program is a large download & therefore the download
it subject to line or network interference; meaning that a bit or two
could be lost in the process. This can happen on any OS, but Windows
users are subject to considerably more virus and trojan infected systems
that can alter a download, therefore they, in particular, should be
using the md5sums to check the integrity of the download.
  Simply put, checking the md5sum following the download helps to verify
that the download completed intact. It's not perfect, it's not a 100%
guarantee, but it certainly is prudent to do so.
