It is not clear to me what you mean by inserting the formula "from the
draw functions", but if it means placing a formula into a text frame,
and possibly copy/pasting into a drawing then it is easily done:
Create a frame in a text document.
Select the frame
Insert the formula using the formula editor
Copy the frame
Paste into the drawing.
