I assume that if an object has a corner handle for resizing, then using it should also maintain aspect.
Some applications bring up a dialog box for any resizing which is where you select whether you want to maintain aspect ration or not.
I’ve a feeling that the control key is more used than shirt or alt, but that’s just a feeling. I don’t want to try to substantiate it or to disprove it. It feels “normal” to me, maybe only because I happen to have used the correct applications for it to feel “normal”.
