I am working on a long document originally created with WP. Among other things, I want to change the default font (the document contains other fonts too). In WP I would change it in the very first code of the Reveal Codes. How can I do it in OOWriter?

   * Go to Format>Styles and Formatting (or press F11) to bring up the
     Styles and Formatting panel.
   * Click on the leftmost icon at the top, which represents paragraph
     styles - you'll see that if you hover the mouse over the icon.
     This will bring up the list of available paragraph styles.
   * Right click on the style named "Default"
   * Click Modify
   * Click the Font tab
   * Choose the font you want from the drop-down list
   * Click OK.

The font of all text in the default paragraph style will change to the font you just chose. You can change other attributes such as font size or typeface in the same way.

The concept of "styles" is key to OpenOffice, especially if you plan to write/edit longish documents with reasonably sophisticated formats. I recommend the chapters on styles in the Writer Guide at http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/Documentation/OOoAuthors_User_Manual/Writer_Guide
