The major advantage is you only get e-mails that notify you of replies to your question and you can even turn that off if you want. The disadvantage is that the forum is much more segregated so you need to do more work to read all of it. Some may consider that to be an advantage as they don't have to wade through a lot of extraneous stuff. But it does make life harder for someone (like me) answering simpler questions on a variety of topics rather than complex questions on a few.
