Excuse me for the exasperation...

I trust you will soon be spared this.

There are settings to control these things, but it is sometimes difficult to find them.

I'm using the OO Spreadsheet ...
Something like:
a a a e E E E7 A

However because the first time an "a" chord is used it's minor the auto correct feature insists that ALL "a" cords must be minor (what lunacy!). The result is:
a a a e e e e7 a

Interestingly, this behaviour is not propagated across the row (as you perhaps think) but within columns. So yes: if there is already a lower case "e" entry in column 5, then your capital "E" will indeed be "corrected" to "e".

I've NEVER been able to turn this off, in spite of the help instructions.

This is called AutoInput, and you control it at Tools | Cell Contents > | AutoInput. Remove the tick.

Similarly I have a budget spreadsheet using OO. I have a column for my Health Savings Account (HSA). Of course the spreadsheet makes me use "HAS".
May *I* be permitted to decide what information goes in the cells....please?

Yes: easily. This is caused by a different "correction" facility, AutoCorrect. You have two options: o To remove such "corrections" generally, go to Tools | AutoCorrect... | Options and remove the tick from "Use replacement table". o To keep such "corrections" generally but remove the "correction" "HSA" -> "has", go to Tools | AutoCorrect... | Replace, scroll down to and select the entry for "hsa", and press Delete.

I trust this helps.
