Oh-oh. I see I've failed to impart a significant point: 
The person who is creating new templates doesn't use OOo. She has no
incentive to make anything OOo friendly - it's just not on her radar.
The company standard is MS Office. I'm just looking for a few things I
can casually bring up, over the next few days, as suggestions for ...
um... er... "Good practices"... where I won't even be mentioning OOo as
the reason.

Also, she's 2500 miles (4200km) and a few timezones away, we've never
met, and her only incentive to do anything for me is my natural charm
and winning ways....    which suggests that I'm already at a bit of a
disadvantage, here... ahem.
