So far as I know the Live media are just for trying it before actually trying 
to install it.  I do not believe that the Live Media are installable.  If the 
CentOS one is based on 4.4, it is quite outdated since CentOS is at 4.8 now.  
Since 4.4 is so dated, it is likely it isn't compatible with the hardware you 
are trying it out on... and not really an OpenVZ specific issue.

So you said you have had "futile attemps" to get OpenVZ installed.  What are 
you trying to install it on?
