It's because we have no installer so far for it and binary releases for
windows. I am slowly getting there over time and eventually I would like
to provide them. My main concern is that I would like to be able to
create cross compilation builds. That means I would like to build
everything on my Linux system for windows. My investigations have shown
that this is possible.

Exactly! But you still need the rest of the tree to actually
install anything anyway, which is why I wrote that you need to
clone the tree first.
