That is under windows.
Have them download and run PDFDebugger, this one also shows logs.
On linux try to make sure it has the standard 14 fonts that are used in
PDFs, so download the microsoft core fonts (google for these words to
see how), also try to get the Zapf Dingbats fonts.
To know what fonts are installed, go to the user directory, then get the
file .pdfbox.cache . Maybe compare that one with a client where it works
properly.

My assumption also is that it has something to do with a broken / non existing
font. Some of our customers reported this problem and currently I am unable to
give them a solution for that.
Even if we are able to identify the exact font causing the problem, the
question is: How to fix the font? Or maybe it is possible to tell PDFBox to use
an alternative font in such a case?
So maybe it makes more sense to phrase the question more general: What to do in
such a case, where some font in a PDF causes problems (either it does not exist
on the current OS or it is broken) ?
