Just in case anyone's wondering, I solved this problem. Turns out my
local MySQL, the way I had it configured, was not logging into Dovecot
properly because the users I was creating were specific to a particular
domain. E.g., [email protected] was listed in the SQL database
with the domain name, rather than * (I have a pseudo-virtual-hosts
configuration going on with Dovecot where several domains can
authenticate against Dovecot separately).
Once I set in SOGo the setting SOGoForceIMAPLoginWithEmail, it correctly
passed the full username [email protected] and authenticated
against the SHA1 hashed password.
We are very happy users of SOGo today, with 1.3.7a installed on a brand
new server. Thank you for all your efforts!
