Thanks!
I may add 'ssl' to my LDAP environment later, but it's not necessary
right now.

Thank you, Peter!
You're welcome.
(I am presuming that's your given name.)
Yes, it's right. Hungarian and Japanese people use the
surename-givenname order :)
Thank you so much! I find LDAP confusing, and honestly, I've found
no reliable HOWTO online.
Your directions were explicit and correct, and I truly appreciate the
time you took to answer.
I will now proceed (when the server is less busy) to install Samba4,
provision it and get on with my work.
Here's the output showing it was successful:
adam@sogo:/etc/default$ sudo service slapd start
* Starting OpenLDAP slapd [ OK ]
adam@sogo:/etc/default$ sudo netstat -lnptu | grep slapd
tcp 0 0 0.0.0.0:10389 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN 753/slapd
tcp6 0 0 :::10389 :::* LISTEN
753/slapd
Perfect :)
If you want to use any openldap over ssl at the future, you need to
use 'ldaps:///' sentence at that line or 'ldaps://:<portnumber>' if
you want to modify the default (636) tcp port.
