is it possible to tell sa-update to search the channel for a different
(older) SA version?
I use the SVN version of SpamAssassin, which gives me a version of
4.000000. As most channels only support 3.x versions, I cannot update
them with sa-update. I had a similiar issue when moving from the 3.1.x
version to 3.2.x version some years ago and I think many will have
this
problem with the next major update.
the better question is how trustworthy is a 3rd party channel not
realizing a new SA version and "As most channels only support 3.x
versions" needs to be defined *who* is most and if they are not simply
dead/unmaintained and should be removed at all
at least "I think many will have this problem" is wrong, i don't
remember any single report after release of 3.4.1 last year
For instance "spamassassin.heinlein-support.de" is an active channel.
If you know any 3rd party channel supporting the 4.x version, I'm open
for any suggestion to try it. (If you don't know any, I suppose a single
example already will be *most*.)
I know that some of the 3rd party channels seem dead or unmaintained,
but how to find out which are updated when I'm unable to check with
sa-update?
You also could argue why I'm using the SVN version, because it's not
stable. But that's the difference between testing on a private mail host
and a production use.
And the fact nobody asked for this feature, doesn't mean nobody wants
it.
