is it possible to tell sa-update to search the channel for a different
(older) SA version?

I use the SVN version of SpamAssassin, which gives me a version of
4.000000. As most channels only support 3.x versions, I cannot update
them with sa-update. I had a similiar issue when moving from the 3.1.x
version to 3.2.x version some years ago and I think many will have this
problem with the next major update.

the better question is how trustworthy is a 3rd party channel not
realizing a new SA version and "As most channels only support 3.x
versions" needs to be defined *who* is most and if they are not simply
dead/unmaintained and should be removed at all

at least "I think many will have this problem" is wrong, i don't
remember any single report after release of 3.4.1 last year

For instance "spamassassin.heinlein-support.de" is an active channel.

and they don't support 4.x?

If you know any 3rd party channel supporting the 4.x version, I'm open
for any suggestion to try it. (If you don't know any, I suppose a single
example already will be *most*.)

they eiter need to make symlink or *you are* responsilble to copy the channel-definitions to the correct directory

SOUGHT is also unmaintained, but the Fedora maintainer managed to include it correctly for 3.4.0 as well as 3.4.1 with "sa-update" after upgrade of SpamAssassin
