Dennis, Unfortunately, I don't have Jetty or Resin (not sure what they are even exactly). I thought I'd post the question here as the problem seems to be pointing to an embedded Tomcat idiosyncroncy, rather than a myFaces issue. I posted the result of the most recent test on the myFaces list yesterday and will certainly post the final resolution when it happens (fingers crossed).
