If you had even the most cursory knowledge of the Sun 1.4 JVM, you'd
know that it no longer includes a classic JVM - that was last shipped
with 1.3.  If you actually try to use -classic on the command line
(which you obviously haven't, even though you recommended the equivalent
- disabling HotSpot), you get the message:

Warning: classic VM not supported; client VM will be used

You can, at most, choose between the -server and -client flavors of
HotSpot.
