Hmmm, works for me on my Ubuntu 11.04 ... Can you either run "sh -x" on the trafficserver script? Or see if there's something in /var/log/messages or something ? Or what if you try "sudo traffic_cop" directly (or "sudo "traffic_shell", (or "sudo traffic_server")).
