It's not going to work if he's not using a form submitting behavior or else a custom behavior that grabs the value of the textfield and adds it to the URL as a query param, then his behavior can get this from the request. But the simplest way (as mentioned earlier) is to use ajaxformcomponentupdatingbehavior
