Elsa, depending on your use case, would using tags be an option? I have a bit difficulty explaining the difference between tags and spaces in less than two sentences. Most importantly: a page can have multiple tags but can only belong to one space. Belonging to a space defines the URL and the rights a page has.
As Marius said, hierarchy through the parent-setting could be an excellent solution as well.
