Groovy even has some syntactic sugar to make that easy, see http://extensions.xwiki.org/xwiki/bin/view/Extension/Execute+SQL (I've updated it) Note that it would be nice to find out how to define a data source in xwiki's web.xml and use that instead of having to specify the credentials in the page. I haven't researched that but it should be pretty easy to do by doing some JNDI lookup or something similar.
