Not so amusingly, I just found a very similar thread here that I started in Nov 2012 the first time I wanted to try out xwiki. In that thread I said that while browsing to http://localhost:8080/xwiki didn't work, browsing to http://mypcname:8080/xwiki did. It doesn't now, nothing appears using either url style.
