**THIS** is a *MAJOR* reason, IMHO, why SI hasn't become more a part of
the 'vernacular' of the USA than it has so far and it remains a
similarly *MAJOR* impediment to it becoming the popular 'norm' for the
forseeable future.
News writers regard the AP Stylebook (along with their own papers'
adaptations of it) as more sacred than the Torah scrolls, Bible or Q'uran.
Subsequently, the public reads 'US customary' in the newspapers and thus
thinks that 'nobody uses metric'....
