Yes, you are right too: their use should not be extended to where it is not
practiced today. This is why I have a dim view on the hectopascal; this was an 
area where such prefix was not used; I do not like the decanewton either. Let 
those which have been used from the beginning stay, like the cm and the hg. At 
present I do not want to do away with the cm as I regard it as being 
indispensible. The forced banishment of the cm in the UK has had a bad influence 
on British metrication. In the future the mm and the kg may take over from cm 
and hg by evolution and I would not oppose it,
