Dear Sirs:

In his article, "On a a Particle's Trail, Physicists Seek Time", (Nov.
4), James Glanz repeatedly makes an egregious error in using "weight"
to mean "mass".

Although this is commonly accepted usage in colloquial and commercial
matters, it has no place in an article about physics. As any scientist
can tell you, mass and weight are different quantities, the latter
being a force. I would hope that your science writer knows that
distinction.

regards,
James R. Frysinger
