You're absolutely right, of course, Jim - and this is why I want to
get the ball rolling to force a change in these ludicrous laws. I'll
bet very few people realise that it is actually completely illegal to
include metres on any distance sign, even to accompany yards (this was
even news to Anne Attlee when I told her recently). I think I
mentioned the local court case recently where the sentence was passed
using metres. Even our Highway Code gives the separation of street
lamps in metres, braking distances in metres as well as yards,
regulations regarding acceptable reading distance for drivers in
metres...duh!
