Sorry, I can't go along with that one, only because It'll create two metric
factions —
are-litre "traditionalists" and quad-vol "upstarts." Not only will this
weaken our efforts, but send us down the road to almost ifp-style chaos.  I
would just as soon accept "milliters/millilitres", "hectares" and "decibels",
at least for everyday people, and not try to contrive "Metric 2.0" before the
real thing has taken root in the English-speaking world.
