Add the term, "New World Order" to that, too. Sadly, many of my fellow
Alaskans are paranoid yahoos who think everything that smacks of globalism
is evil. On the local talk shows I hear balderdash such as: "That thar UN
has designated our wilderness as a world resource trust. Them 'blue
helmets' are gonna patrol it with machine guns!" Another often-repeated
gem: "President Clinton don't wanna leave office, so he's gonna invent a
national emergency and declare martial law so he can stay in the White
House!" Many of the same people I hear locally also call Jim Bohannon on
his national radio program. He is aghast at their ignorance and stupidity.
It isn't anti-American to speak the truth, and the sad truth about many (if
not most) Americans is that they are DUMB. I hate to say this, but the
Americans on this list are almost the only thinking Americans I encounter on
a daily basis. (Please note that I do not define a thinking person as
someone who agrees with me.) Most of the people I see here locally did not
arrive at their views through reason. They believe what they believe
because someone (usually their parents) told them and they never questioned
it. Lest anyone think I'm bashing Alaskans, I encountered the same
anti-intellectual climate in Miami, Florida, where I grew up.
