12 troy ounces = 1 troy pound

But that still doesn't make it a base-12 system. You can just as accurately
call it base 2 (pints in a quart), 3 (feet in a yard), 4 (quarts in a
gallon), 5.5 (yards in a rod), 10 (chains in a furlong), 16 (ounces in a
pound or US pint), 20 (ounces in an imperial pint), or even 231 (cubic
inches in a US gallon).
