Much like wary English barons of the 13th century, metric purists today, especially those who live in the lands of mixed measurement (the US, the UK, Ireland, Canada, ...) yearn for the day of a single measurement system. ------- To quote from section 35 of the Magna Carta: "Let there be one measure of wine throughout our whole realm; and one measure of ale; and one measure of corn, to wit, "the London quarter"; and one width of cloth (whether dyed, or russet, or "halberget"), to wit, two ells within the selvedges; of weights also let it be as of measures." ------- Just as the ell (approximately 113 cm, I believe) became extinct, so too will the inch, the pound, and the gallon. Perhaps not in our lifetime, or the lifetime of our children, but they will pass. Here's to metric... measurement system of the new millennium. There's no going back. It's here to stay. John Parkyn
