It took a parliamentary question from my TD [congressman] to elicit
an answer from the Dept of Environment, but it doesn't look too good
for the June deadline. They say they will do the conversion, but it
is "unlikely" to be by the June deadline as they have to address
safety concerns. They have established a committee which will report
back, but you know the definition of a committee (a dark ally down which
good ideas are lured and quietly strangled).

I am trying to organize a letter writing campaign to add pressure. I
have also a good rapport with someone in the Office of Legal Metrology,
who are represented on the committee, and are pushing the changeover.

I'm certainly not fluent, but I speak a little. I'm afraid I never
heard of it. I'll check with she-who-must-be-obeyed (who is fluent).
