I do not usually take part in your discussions. I have a question. Has anyone noticed that good that have metric marked on them in the US have mL while goods from Britain have ml with a funny shaped e afer them. Does anyone know why this is. Sorry if that is a stupid question and has been answered before. Also I think if America is to be totally metric they could do themselves a favour and not do it the way it is done in the UK. In school we were taught entirely in metric. In University we were taught entirely in metric. However the government must have been drinking the night before they decided that we would do this but keep roadsigns in miles and yards. I feel comfortable with all metric measures except km solely beacuse in my everyday driving roadsigns are in miles and so I get used to knowing distances in miles. Everyone uses miles also because it is easier for everyday use because of the signs. Had they changed to km yes it would take time for people to adapt but there would not be a generation like me who use metric for everything else except for driving distances. When I travel to the USA the distances are all in miles it does not bother me, but when I hear a temperature in Fahrnheit I always have to convert it. Driving in Canada and Continental Europe I thought I would try and adapt to km but there simply is not enough time when you are there on holiday. When you come home you are back to miles again. We also have a situation where fuel is measured in litres and distances in miles. So therefore for everyday use I suppose the best thing to use would be miles/litre. Which is hardly ideal. I think the key to metric is have it taught in schools and change as these youngsters grow up and become part of the voting population. Trying it now I think is hard as everyone i find is so opposed to change. People my age (early 20's) in America still think as my dad does when he was my age. He knows what a cm is and a litre but will always use the inches side of his ruler __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo!
