You must be working from a different copy of the SI brochure than I am,
Gene. I'm using the 7th edition (1998) and Supplement 2000. The only
units I see listed in Table 6 are day, hour, and minute. The footnotes
to the table do not mention the year. The text does indicate that other
non-SI units exist but it doesn't name them, though it does say that
some of those units are "units of time".
Is it possible that you are referring to a derivative work? NIST SP 811
*does* specifically mention the week, month, and year in its textual
material as non-SI units and states that they should be spelled out. (It
also refers to Sec. 8.1, which notes that ISO 31-1 suggests "a" as the
symbol for "year".) But it, too, omits the year from Table 6.
When you're ready to give up the week, month, and year, Gene, I'll be
ready to give up the hectare.
