Yes, they are still printing them in limited amounts. The new ones have a
1995 series date. The ones I get are usually new and have never been
previously circulated.

In answer to your P.S., all I can say is I heard that rumour too. It had
something to do with the members of Congress from states or regions where
the paper used to print the bills comes from. These members of Congress
wouldn't approve the minting of the coin unless they were assured the paper
dollar would remain in circulation. I guess these votes were needed for a
majority.

I am surprised that Congress or whoever didn't come up with smarter plan. I
figure, that if you discontinue the paper dollar and replace it with the
coin and continue to print more paper two dollar bills you can make everyone
happy. The coin is there for the reasons it is needed. The two dollar bill
keeps the paper makers happy, and the general public, once use to both will
see a perfect combination. Some people worried that with a dollar coin,
they would have a pocket full of dollars as change. But, if stores used the
two dollar bill, they would give out fewer coins then if there was no two
dollar bill. For example, change for a five dollar bill would be 2 -2 $
bills and a dollar coin. Only one coin instead of five weighing down your
pocket. Makes perfect sense to me!

Funny thing though, has anyone ever received a newer looking 1 $ bill in
change? Everyone I've received looks like it is 100 years old. Most are so
bad, they won't work in vending machines. I never got a bill to work in a
machine on the first try. Now, I don't bother. Machines upgraded to take
dollar bills also take coins. So, I use the coin. It goes in once and it
works! No hassles.

But, somehow, this idea makes too much sense, so no one thought of it, but
me!!

US leaders are really dumb sometimes and that is putting it mildly.
